Power Outage in Downtown Lake Charles Extended Until at Least January 20

Lake Charles, Louisiana – The City of Lake Charles announced that Entergy has extended the estimated restoration time of electrical power to noon on Friday, January 20. 

The City of Lake Charles announced on January 19, 2023, that Entergy has extended the estimated restoration time of electrical power to noon on Friday, January 20. The planned power outage, which began at approximately 3:55 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, is to allow for emergency repairs to the downtown electric grid. Residents and businesses in downtown should expect to be without power for the timeframe mentioned.

Lake Charles City Hall and the Lake Charles Civic Center will be closed to the public on Friday, January 20 as a result of the extended restoration estimate.
The events scheduled for this weekend at the Lake Charles Civic Center will go ahead as planned. To address individual events, Civic Center personnel are contacting event organizers directly.
Public Safety and Public Works Operations will continue to operate normally, and City Transit will run its regular routes. The Water Billing Office, located inside the City Transit Building at 1155 Ryan St, will continue to operate during normal business hours.

The Lake Charles City Council’s regular meeting on Wednesday, January 18, has been rescheduled as a Special Meeting on Tuesday, January 24, at 5:30 p.m. The agenda for the meeting is now available at www.cityoflakecharles.com.

Entergy crews are still working in the downtown corridor. Lane closures are occurring on several downtown streets between Ryan Street and Lakeshore Drive, from Bilbo Street north to Mill Street. These lane closures are expected to continue until 10 p.m. on Friday, January 20. Motorists are advised to avoid these areas if possible, and to exercise extreme caution if necessary, as crews will be working during the day and night, and some traffic signals may be inoperable.
