Postal Employee in Louisiana Charged with Embezzling Mail
Louisiana – On June 22, 2022, U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Patrick Ezell Wilson, age 51, of Bogalusa, Louisiana was charged on June 21, 2022 with embezzling the mail in a bill of information filed today in the Eastern District of Louisiana.
According to documents filed in federal court, Patrick Ezell was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Bogalusa, Louisiana, when he was apprehended stealing mail entrusted to him.
The maximum sentence for the offense is five years in prison and/or a fine of up to $250,000, or the greater of twice the defendant’s gross gain or twice the victim’s gross loss, followed by up to three years of supervised release and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
United States Attorney Evans reiterated that the bill of information is only a charge and that the defendant’s guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
U.S. Attorney Evans praised the Office of the Inspector General of the United States Postal Service for its work in investigating this matter. The prosecution is led by Assistant United States Attorney Richard R. Pickens, II.
