Postal Carrier in Louisiana Charged with Embezzling Mail, Faces up to 5 Years if Convicted

New Orleans, Louisiana – On August 5, 2022, U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Keishan Wilson, age 38, of New Orleans, Louisiana, was indicted on August 4, 2022, for embezzling the mail.

Wilson was employed by the United States Postal Service as a mail handler at the New Orleans processing center when she was captured stealing the content of mail items she was entrusted to handle for the Postal Service, according to documents filed in federal court.

The maximum penalty for the offense is five years in jail and/or a fine of $250,000, or the greater of twice the defendant’s gross gain or twice the victim’s gross loss, followed by up to three years of supervised release and a mandatory special assessment charge of $100.

U.S. Attorney Evans reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.

U.S. Attorney Evans thanked the Office of the Inspector General of the United States Postal Service for its diligence in investigating this situation. The prosecution is led by Assistant United States Attorney Richard R. Pickens, II.
