Possible Snow in Louisiana Tuesday, January 29, 2019

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles Calls for Possible Snow in Louisiana Tuesday, January 29, 2019

On Sunday, January 27, 2019, the National Weather Service in Lake Charles has forecast possible snow in Louisiana on Tuesday, January 29, 2019.

From the National Weather Service in Lake Charles – We’re continuing to monitor the potential for some wintry precipitation Tuesday morning. An area of rain will move through the region overnight Monday into Tuesday morning, with colder air allowing for a brief transition near sunrise. Current expectation is that further north into central LA rain will become a wintry rain/snow mix and then predominantly snow for a small time. Further south, along and just north of the I-10 corridor, rain will transition to a wintry mix for a small period of time before precipitation moves out. South of the I-10 corridor temperatures will likely be too warm for frozen precipitation, and rain is most likely. Given the brevity of the event, current expectation is that accumulations will be light with less than 1/2 an inch possible in parts of Rapides and Avoyelles Parish. Little more than a dusting is expected elsewhere, with most accumulation occurring on elevated surfaces. This combined with temperatures near or slightly below freezing will lead to potentially hazardous driving conditions, especially on bridges and overpasses.

Again, a fair amount of uncertainty still exists in the exact timing of the transition, and thus how long snow may fall in some locations. Further changes to accumulation amounts will be possible in upcoming forecasts.
