Port of Lake Charles Makes top 50 Ports List
The Port of Lake Charles made Global Trade Magazine’s Top 50 Power Ports List
The Port of Lake Charles was number 12 on the list with a total tonnage of 56,045,838. A recent study also found that the Lake Charles port can handle twice its current volume. It is also the seventh-fastest growing port in the US with an estimated $85 billion worth of investments scheduled along the Calcasieu Ship Channel.
Global Trade’s list is made up of ports in the US and the rankings are based on the number of tons of cargo a port moves per year. A total of 5 Louisiana ports made the 2018 list, and all were in the top half of the list.
Here are where Louisiana ports ranked on the list and the total tons that went through them.
- 1 Port of South Louisiana – 261,898,079 total tons
- 4 Port of New Orleans – 90,270,859 total tons
- 8 Port of Baton Rouge – 72,998,561 total tons
- 11 Plaquemines Port – 56,780,632 total tons
- 12 Port of Lake Charles – 56,045,838 total tons
