Polish National Residing in Louisiana Arrested in Connection with Multiple 2022 Contractor Fraud Cases

St. John the Baptist Parish, Louisiana – A Polish national residing in Louisiana has been arrested in connection with multiple 2022 contractor fraud cases.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office (SJSO) reported on March 29, 2023, that Wojciech Niznik, 37, a Polish national residing in Hammond, Louisiana, was arrested on March 27, 2023, in connection with various contractor fraud cases in St. John the Baptist Parish.

The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office received complaints from people in the summer of 2022 concerning Niznik’s contractor fraud. Detectives issued arrest warrants for Niznik based on their investigation.

Niznik was apprehended on March 27, 2023, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, by the Louisiana Attorney General’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office and Diplomatic Security Service assisted with the investigation.

Authorities are asking that anyone who has a similar complaint that is connected to Niznik that has not yet been reported call Det. Lt. Michael Shard of the SJSO Cyber/Financial Crimes Unit at 985-359-8764.

Niznik was booked with two counts of theft by fraud $1000 – $5,000 (felony); three counts of residential contractor fraud (felony); and engaging in business of contracting without authority; penalty (felony).

At the time this was published, Niznik was being held in custody on a $35,000 bond.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
