Hammond, Louisiana – On March 6, 2025, the Hammond Police Department (HPD) began investigating a kidnapping that occurred in the parking lot of T-Mobile, located at 1720 West Thomas Street. According to reports, a witness informed authorities that her sister had been abducted by her ex-boyfriend, Jarvis Buchanan, a 21-year-old resident of Baton Rouge.

Witnesses described the incident, stating that Buchanan approached the T-Mobile store with the intention of locating his ex-girlfriend. In a violent turn of events, he allegedly grabbed her and forced her to enter the front passenger seat of his vehicle. Following this abduction, Buchanan left the area with the victim still inside the vehicle.

Detectives quickly coordinated with various law enforcement agencies, including the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police Troop A, and the Gonzales Police Department, to track down Buchanan. Their efforts led them to the Baton Rouge/Gonzales area, where they successfully located Buchanan’s vehicle.

In a bid to apprehend the suspect, Louisiana State Police attempted to stop the vehicle, which resulted in a high-speed pursuit. The chase concluded in Lutcher, where Buchanan fled on foot into nearby woods. However, law enforcement was able to locate the victim safely in the front passenger seat of the vehicle.

Buchanan was later apprehended without further incident. The victim is now reported to be safe. The investigation continues as they gather further evidence related to the case.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
