Pedestrian Killed, Driver Arrested in Fatal Early Morning Crash on I-10 in Louisiana

Louisiana – Louisiana State Police stated on October 26, 2022, that on October 25, 2022, shortly after 2:00 a.m., LSP Troop I responded to a report of a stalled vehicle in the center eastbound lane of Interstate 10 west of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, around mile marker 108. The responding trooper discovered shortly after arriving that a person had been struck by a pickup truck just east of the abandoned vehicle.

According to early findings, a 2019 Ram pickup driven by 26-year-old Ben Latiolais of Arnaudville, Louisiana struck the pedestrian before coming to a halt on the inside shoulder. Ryelee A. Georgeson, 20, of Denham Springs, Louisiana, was found on the opposite side of the eastbound lanes near the fog line.

Georgeson was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition and died later that day from her injuries. A toxicological sample was collected for analysis, and the findings are still pending.
Latiolais was restrained and unharmed. He provided a breath sample that police said showed signs of intoxication. Latiolais was arrested and booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail for DWI first offense.

This crash is still being investigated.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
