Pedestrian in Louisiana Struck and Killed in Early Morning Hit-and-Run Crash on I-10, Authorities Asking for Assistance from Public in Locating Driver
Calcasieu Parish – A pedestrian was struck and killed in an early morning hit-and-run crash on I-10 in Louisiana. Authorities are asking for assistance from the public in locating the driver.
On March 5, 2023, Louisiana State Police (LSP) reported that Troopers from LSP Troop D responded to a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on Interstate 10 just west of LA Highway 3063 in Calcasieu Parish shortly after 1:45 a.m. The name of the pedestrian has been withheld by authorities pending notification of next of kin.
According to the preliminary inquiry, the pedestrian was walking in the outside lane of travel on I-10 when he was struck by an unknown westbound automobile.
The pedestrian died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Louisiana State Police said that the inquiry is still underway, and anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Troop D at (337) 491-2513.
Troopers advise pedestrians to keep a high level of vigilance when walking near the road. Basic precautions like wearing reflective clothing or material, avoiding distractions, and walking a safe distance away from travel lanes while facing oncoming vehicles could help prevent many pedestrian-related accidents. Pedestrians must also anticipate that approaching automobiles will not be able to see them, particularly at night.
So far in 2023, Troop D has investigated 6 fatal crashes that resulted in 7 deaths.
