On Jun 2, 2020, a march down Ryan Street in Lake Charles was held to protest the death of 46-year-old George Floyd who died during his arrest by Minneapolis Police on May 25, 2020. The group met at Millenium Park, then proceeded to the courthouse located across the street from the 1911 Historic City Hall. Several locals then spoke on the steps of the courthouse and the group held a moment of silence before beginning the march down Ryan Street. The march proceeded peacefully down Ryan Street approximately one-and-a-half miles to the Southgate Shopping Center.

Local police and sheriff deputies assisted the protestors in safely making their way along the march, then provided transportation back to where the march started.
