One Pedestrian was Killed and One Injured in Louisiana While Changing a Tire on the Left Shoulder of I-10
St. James Parish, Louisiana – A pedestrian was killed and another was injured in Louisiana while changing a tire on the left shoulder of I-10.
On July 4, 2023, just after 6:00 a.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A initiated an investigation into a car accident on Interstate 10, east of LA 641 in St. James Parish. The accident involved two pedestrians and tragically resulted in the death of 25-year-old Haley Williamson from Mobile, Alabama.
The first examination showed that Williamson was driving a 2007 Lexus ES350 in the left lane on Interstate 10, going east, when her front, right tire became deflated. Soon after, Williamson pulled over her car on the left side of the road. It is still being investigated why, but Williamson and another person were trying to replace the tire and were partially on the road. As a result, an Acura MDX driving in the left lane from the east collided with both Williamson and the second pedestrian.
Williamson tragically died at the accident site due to severe injuries. The other pedestrian only suffered minor injuries and declined medical assistance. The driver of the Acura was wearing a seatbelt and was unharmed. It is not believed that the driver was under the influence of any substances, but a routine sample for toxicology was taken. The St. James Parish Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation. The investigation into this crash is still ongoing.
Troopers are advising drivers to be cautious when pulling over on the road. If you need help, dial *LSP (*577).
