One Louisiana Man is Dead After a Two-Vehicle Crash on LA 754

Louisiana – According to Louisiana State Police, on July 1, 2022, shortly before 9:00 a.m., LSP Troop I responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of LA Hwy 754 and Jessie Richard Road in St. Landry Parish. Claude Chevis, 72, of Church Point, Louisiana, died in the crash.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 GMC Sierra driven by Willis J. Curley, 47, of Opelousas, was traveling south on Jessie Richard Road. Chevis was driving a 1991 Chevrolet Silverado east on LA Hwy 754. Curley failed to yield at the stop sign, entered the intersection, and was struck on the passenger side by the Chevrolet as he attempted to cross the intersection.

Chevis, who was properly restrained, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Curley was restrained properly and suffered only minor injuries.
Toxicology samples were collected from Curley and Chevis and submitted for testing. This accident is still being investigated.

Louisiana State Troopers would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists to always make sound decisions when operating motor vehicles. Never drive distracted and obey all traffic laws. While not all accidents are avoidable, simple precautions like these can often mean the difference between life and death.

Troop I investigated 21 fatal crashes so far in 2022, resulting in 24 deaths.
