One From Louisiana Dead and Another Arrested for DWI After Fatal July 4 Boating Accident

Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries reported on July 5, 2022, that enforcement agents are investigating a fatal boating incident that occurred in Livingston Parish on July 4, 2022.

Madison Bradley, 17, of Slidell, Louisiana, was found dead in the Blind River around 8 p.m. on July 4.

Around 5:40 p.m., LDWF agents were notified of a missing boater. Bradley was a passenger on a pontoon boat with five other people, according to the other passengers. She and another male passenger were riding on the bow in front of the protective rail. The boat hit the wake of a passing vessel, throwing Bradley and the male passenger into the water. Bradley did not resurface after suffering several severe propeller strikes. The male passenger survived with only minor injuries.

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries arrested the operator of the vessel, David Crowe, 33, of Denham Springs, Louisiana, for vehicular homicide, operating or driving a vessel while impaired (DWI), and reckless operation of a vessel. He was booked into the Livingston Parish Jail.

Vehicular homicide brings a $2,000 to $15,000 fine and five to 30 years in prison. DWI brings a $300 to $1,000 fine and up to six month in jail. Reckless operation of a vessel carries up to a $200 fine and 90 days in jail.

The LDWF will lead the investigation into this fatal boating accident. Bradley’s body was turned over to the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office for an official cause of death determination.

Agents from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, as well as the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, assisted in the search.
