One Arrested in Four-Vehicle Head-On Crash in Louisiana That Claimed the Life of One Driver

Louisiana – Louisiana State Police reported that Troop I was alerted of a four-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 94 at Louisiana Highway 354 in St. Martin Parish shortly after 7:00 a.m. on November 18, 2022. Hailee Rossyoin, 29, of Arnaudville, Louisiana, died in the crash.

The early investigation found that Luke Tripkovich, 36, of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, was driving a 2019 Ram 1500 truck west on LA 94. Tripkovich reportedly veered into eastbound traffic for unknown reasons, striking the rear axle of a 2022 Freightliner box truck and then a 2017 Nissan Rogue following behind the box truck. After the collision, the box truck spun and collided with Rossyoin’s Honda Civic, which was heading westbound behind Tripkovich’s Ram. The box truck and the Civic collided on the highway and both ended up in the north ditch.

All of the drivers engaged were appropriately restrained. The St. Martin Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Rossyoin deceased on the scene. Both the box truck driver and the driver of the Rogue were unharmed. Troopers confirmed that neither driver was impaired following tests.

According to police, Tripkovich was tested, and impairment was detected. The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab is still processing a toxicological sample. He was taken to a nearby hospital for medical clearance before being placed into the St. Martin Parish Jail on the following charges: LA R.S. 14:32.1 Vehicular Homicide, 32:415 Driving Under Suspension, and 32:58 Careless Operation This accident is still being investigated.

LSP reported that Troopers are repeatedly witnessing avoidable motor vehicle accidents. Impaired drivers cause nearly half of all fatal crashes in Louisiana. Louisiana State Police advise motorists to have a strategy in place that includes a designated driver or using a ride-share service. Please choose not to drive impaired, which includes both alcohol and drugs, and never ride with an impaired driver.

Since the beginning of 2022, Troop I has investigated 55 deadly crashes that have resulted in 62 deaths.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
