Officer Involved Shooting in Lafayette Being Investigated by Louisiana State Police

Update:

Lafayette, LA  – On April 14, 2022, Louisiana State Police reported that an initial investigation by the LSP Bureau of Investigations revealed that officers from the Lafayette Police Department’s SWAT team were attempting to serve a high-risk warrant in the 200 block of Paul Breaux Avenue. The subject of the warrant, Trevon Bonner, 18, of Lafayette, was wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred earlier in the night. Officers attempted to communicate with Bonner, who refused to leave the house.

As officers approached the house, they announced themselves as cops and ordered Bonner to surrender. He refused to comply, so they used a marked armored vehicle to break down the door in order to deploy a phone to negotiate with him. After breaking down the door, an officer discovered Bonner inside the house with a handgun. They used CS gas inside the house. Bonner then fired the handgun at the officers, prompting several of them to return fire.

Louisiana State Police indicated that this is an active investigation and further information will be released when it becomes available.
