Off-Duty Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Saves Man and Children at Moss Bluff Boat Launch

From CPSO – On May 19, Deputy Michael LaVergne, who was off-duty, witnessed a truck rolling into the water while attempting to back their boat in at a launch in Moss Bluff. During the incident, the owner of the boat fell off the dock into the water and was trapped between two boats. LaVergne also observed the truck starting to sink with two children still inside.
Thanks to his quick thinking, LaVergne was able to save the owner and get him out of the water as well as save the children out of the sinking truck.
He is pictured with Sheriff Tony Mancuso receiving a Challenge Coin for going above and beyond the call of duty.
