Nicaraguan National Charged in a Federal Court in Louisiana with Illegal Reentry into the United States After Deportation

New Orleans, Louisiana – A Nicaraguan national was indicted in a federal court in Louisiana for illegal reentry into the United States after being deported in 2013 and faces up to two years in prison if convicted.

Alexander Josue Reyes-Ramirez, age 36, was charged on December 8, 2022, with illegal reentry of a removed alien in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a), according to U.S. Attorney Duane Evans.

Alexander Josue Reyes-Ramirez (“Reyes-Ramirez”), according to the indictment, reentered the United States after being deported on December 18, 2013. If convicted, Reyes-Ramirez faces a maximum of two years in jail, a maximum of $250,000 in fines, a maximum of one year of supervised release, and a mandatory $100 special assessment charge.

U.S. Evans reaffirmed that an indictment is only an accusation and that the defendant’s guilt must be established beyond a reasonable doubt.

U.S. Attorney Evans applauded the investigation efforts of United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The prosecution is led by Assistant United States Attorney Carter K. D. Guice Jr.
