Calcasieu Parish and Beauregard Parish, Louisiana – A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Lake Charles on July 30 for south central Beauregard Parish and north central Calcasieu Parish, including the city of DeQuincy. The warning is in effect from 7:09 p.m. until 7:45 p.m. Central Daylight Time.
At the time of the warning, meteorologists tracked a severe thunderstorm near DeQuincy, moving south at 20 miles per hour. Radar data indicated the primary hazard was wind gusts reaching up to 60 miles per hour. Such strong winds are capable of causing damage to roofs, siding, and trees, with the potential to bring down branches and power lines in some areas.
Residents of DeQuincy and the nearby community of Buhler were listed as being in the storm’s direct path. The National Weather Service advised anyone in these areas to move to the lowest floor of a sturdy building and stay away from windows until the storm passes.
Along with high winds, forecasters cautioned about torrential rainfall associated with this storm, increasing the risk of flash flooding. People were warned not to attempt to drive through water-covered roadways, as even shallow floodwaters can pose a serious risk to drivers and their vehicles.
This incident is part of a broader pattern of strong thunderstorms and unsettled weather across Louisiana today. Meteorologists continued to monitor the situation closely.
