National Weather Service Issues Severe Thunderstorm Warning Until 2:45 am December 30

Lake Charles, Louisiana – At 2:10 am on Friday, December 30, 2022, the National Weather Service in Lake Charles issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts of Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas including South central Beauregard Parish, Western Calcasieu Parish, Southwestern Newton County, and Orange County.

The Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 2:45 AM.

According to the National Weather Service, at 2:10 AM, a severe thunderstorm was located near Mauriceville, moving northeast at 50 mph.

Hazards include.60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage
to roofs, siding, and trees.

Some of the locations impacted include Sulphur, Orange, Vidor, Bridge City, West Orange, Vinton, Deweyville, Starks, Mauriceville, DeQuincy, Pinehurst, Lunita, Buhler, Hartburg, Forest Heights, Toomey, Orangefield, and Edgerly.

Major roadways expected to be impacted include Interstate 10 in Texas between mile markers 880 and 863. Interstate 10 in Louisiana between mile markers 1 and 18.

The NWS is advising residents to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm and may lead to flash flooding.

Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
