National Weather Service Announces Enhanced Risk Across Lake Charles, Jasper, Beaumont, and Fort Johnson on May 16, 2024

Lake Charles, Louisiana – The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has issued an update regarding the weather forecast for this afternoon, May 16, 2024. The risk for severe weather has escalated significantly, now placing a large portion of the region at an Enhanced Risk (3/5) level. Areas including Lake Charles, Jasper, Beaumont, and Fort Johnson are all under this heightened risk category, with potential threats of damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes.

Moreover, the High Risk (4/4) for flash flooding continues to loom over the interior sections of central southeast Texas and central Louisiana. This means residents in these areas need to remain vigilant and prepared as the weather conditions are expected to rapidly deteriorate as the day progresses.
