Name and Charges Released For Louisiana Suspect in April 2 Pursuit and Crash on LA 1 that Claimed the Life of a Deputy
Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana – The name and charges have been released for a Louisiana suspect in an April 2 pursuit and crash on LA 1 that claimed the life of a deputy.
The Louisiana State Police (LSP) and the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office have issued an update regarding a crash on LA 1 during a vehicle pursuit that claimed the life of a deputy. The suspect in the death of Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office Det. Sgt. Nicholas Pepper has been named as Anthony H. Savoie, 33, of Bourg, Louisiana.
Savoie has been held at a local hospital for medical treatment for injuries sustained when his Chevy Tahoe collided with Sgt. Pepper’s and another deputy’s marked units. Louisiana State Police, assisted by the Thibodaux Police Department, kept Savoie in custody in the hospital until he was released on April 5.
He was secured and taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center, where he was booked and then transferred to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex for housing. Savoie was booked and charged with First Degree Murder of a Police Officer, Attempted First Degree Murder of a Police Officer, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, and Failure to Appear on a Warrant (32nd Judicial District Court)
The criminal proceedings will be handled by the Terrebonne Parish District Attorney’s Office.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
