Multiple Schools in Lake Charles Placed on Lockdown Stemming from an Incident at Washington Marion High School

Lake Charles, Louisiana – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has reported that earlier today, September 20, 2022, Washington Marion High School was placed on lockdown after an incident at the school. Molo Middle School and LaGrange High School were also placed on a precautionary lockdown stemming from the incident at Washington Marion.

The lockdowns occurred after students at Washington Marion High School were involved in a fight at which time witnesses reported hearing someone mention a gun. The students involved in the fight fled the school.

CPSO deputies along with officers from the Lake Charles Police Department immediately responded to the school. Law Enforcement later located three individuals involved and they are currently being interviewed.

According to authorities, no gun has been located at this time and the lockdowns were lifted shortly before school let out for the day.

Authorities also indicated that no students are believed to be in danger but as a precautionary measure deputies with the CPSO QRF Team will be at the school until all students have left campus.

The Calcasieu Parish School Board confirmed that the students and faculty were safe at all times and that the lockdown has been lifted.

The incident is under investigation and there is no further information at this time.
