Ascension Parish, Louisiana – A motorcyclist in Louisiana has died in a single-vehicle crash after running off LA 1 in Ascension Parish.

Louisiana State Police Troop A initiated an inquiry into a motorbike accident that occurred on LA 1 close to LA 943 in Ascension Parish on June 25, 2023. Unfortunately, the crash led to the demise of Claudia Barraza, a 47-year-old resident of Rayne, Louisiana.

LSP indicated that according to the first investigation, Barraza was operating a 2019 Can-Am Ryker in the southern direction on LA 1. However, it is still uncertain why Barraza veered off the road to the right, entered a ditch, and collided with an embankment. As a result of the collision, Barraza was thrown off her motorcycle.

Barraza suffered grave injuries in the accident despite wearing a helmet that was approved by DOT. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead later on. To aid in the ongoing investigation, a sample for toxicology was collected and will be examined. The investigation for this accident is still in progress.

Louisiana State Police said that when driving on the road, whether in a car or on a motorcycle, it is important for drivers to make wise choices. Motorcyclists must behave responsibly and take safety measures such as wearing a helmet, following speed limits and avoiding any form of impairment. If drivers identify risky scenarios or suspect impaired drivers, they can call *LSP (*577) to reach the nearest Troop and report the incident.
