Moss Bluff, Louisiana – A two-vehicle crash occurred on October 23 at approximately 7:00 a.m. in the 3100 block of North Perkins Ferry Road in Moss Bluff, Louisiana, claiming the life of a 34-year-old driver. According to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO), deputies were dispatched to the scene in response to a report of the incident.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Chevy pickup truck, driven by Jose Martinez, 34, of Lake Charles, was traveling southbound on North Perkins Ferry Road after turning left from Trisha Court. Martinez’s vehicle was struck from behind by a Dodge pickup truck, also traveling southbound on North Perkins Ferry Road. The impact of the crash caused both trucks to veer off the roadway.

Martinez, who was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Chevy was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. Authorities do not suspect impairment as a contributing factor in the crash, instead citing fog as the primary cause.

The investigation, led by CPSO Sr. Cpl. Travis Carroll is ongoing, and the coroner will determine the official cause of death. As the investigation continues, officials will analyze the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine the exact sequence of events.
