Lake Charles, Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced an updated closure schedule for Interstate 210 in Lake Charles, part of ongoing Hurricane Laura lighting repairs under State Project H.015598. The project, which began in March 2025 and is scheduled to conclude in fall 2025 with a budget of $8.09 million, aims to improve roadway safety through comprehensive lighting upgrades.

Drivers on I-210 eastbound can expect daily lane closures between mile marker 1 and Exit 3, from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., starting Monday, June 9, 2025, through Monday, September 1, 2025. This extended schedule covers the core summer months, potentially impacting commuter and tourist traffic in the Lake Charles area. The closures are necessary to allow work crews safe access to overhead lighting systems and related infrastructure.

A series of full closures on I-210 westbound at Exit 3 are also planned. The highway will be completely closed to westbound traffic at Exit 3 on the nights of Sunday, August 17, and Monday, August 18, 2025, from 9 p.m. until 4 a.m. the following mornings. These complete shutdowns allow for critical nighttime work that cannot be performed alongside traffic. Alternate routes should be considered during these periods to avoid significant delays.

In addition, alternating nighttime lane closures for I-210 eastbound are scheduled for August 18–20, 2025, during overnight hours. Work will proceed from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. on consecutive nights, further limiting access and potentially increasing vehicle congestion during early morning commutes.

A continuous left lane closure is already in effect for I-210 westbound from Exit 3 to mile marker 1, just east of Cove Lane. Importantly, the Cove Lane exit itself remains open, ensuring some accessibility for local traffic even as the long-term lane closure continues.

For the duration of the project, an 11-foot width restriction will be enforced on portions of the interstate. This restriction affects oversize vehicles, such as large commercial trucks or vehicles hauling wide loads, requiring these drivers to plan alternate routes or adjust their travel times.

These closures are part of the wider recovery and resiliency efforts following the impact of Hurricane Laura on Calcasieu Parish. Crews are working to restore and enhance road lighting.

Motorists should remain aware of the adjusted schedules, allow for additional travel time, and consider alternate routes during closure periods.
