More Bank Scam Texts Being Sent as the Holidays Near

Published September 1, 2019

Several people have recently reported receiving text messages claiming to be a bank alert from Chase. Most of the texts say “FRM: CHASE BANK ALERT MSG:1004Acc Frozen!” or something similar, and contain a link that indicates it will unlock the account if followed. An image of one of the messages can be seen below. When the link is clicked it takes victims to a page that appears to be a legitimate Chase Bank page, but is not. The page requests personal information that is then sent to the scammers rather than Chase.

This is not the first time this scam has been seen, but it appears that the scammers may be sending the messages more than usual as we come into the holiday season. The legitimate Chase website address is “https://www.chase.com/” and contains no additional characters between “chase” and “.com.”

If you receive one of the messages you should block the sender if possible.
