Today is the last day for a parish registrar of voters to receive a voted mail ballot for Tuesday's election, burn bans remain in effect in Calcasieu and Cameron parishes even as rain chances build, with no lifting notice found for Beauregard, and McNeese women's basketball opens its season at home this morning.
1. Calcasieu Parish — What changed today
- Voted mail ballots must reach the registrar today
A voted absentee ballot for the Nov. 3 election must reach the parish registrar of voters by today, Monday, Nov. 2, at 4:30 p.m. Different rules apply to military and overseas voters. Check GeauxVote for your sample ballot and polling place before Tuesday.

The Police Jury's Oct. 14 notice, signed by Police Jury President Brian Abshire, prohibits all outdoor private burning of any kind, with prescribed burns excluded, and states no end date. No lift or replacement notice was found this morning, so the ban should still be treated as in effect.

2. Southwest Louisiana — Cameron, Jeff Davis, Allen, Beauregard
- Cameron Parish burn ban still in its 30-day window
Cameron Parish's parish-wide burn ban, effective Oct. 21, 2026, remains in effect for 30 days from that date, unless extended by the parish homeland security director. The notice cites drought conditions. Violations carry up to a $300 fine and/or 30 days in jail.

No lifting notice for the Beauregard Parish burn ban was found this morning, and no new postings were found this morning from the Jeff Davis or Allen parish police juries.
3. Louisiana — Only if it affects SWLA
- Election Day is Tuesday; polls open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters in line at their correct polling place when the polls close are still allowed to vote. Ballots vary by parish, city, and district and include federal, local, and tax items plus proposed constitutional amendments, so check your own sample ballot on GeauxVote rather than relying on a statewide list.

4. Weather, fire danger, roads, and closures
- Weather today: Cloudy to partly cloudy, with a high near 82 and a low near 72; southeast wind around 13 mph, with gusts near 20 mph, and about a 20 percent chance of rain. Tuesday: scattered thunderstorms are expected ahead of a cold front, with a high near 82 and rain chances rising to around 50 to 60 percent; behind the front, Wednesday turns mostly sunny and cooler, with a high near 78 and a low in the mid-50s. (NWS Lake Charles)
- Fire danger / burn guidance: The National Weather Service's fire weather forecast for this morning says elevated humidity will limit fire danger today and Tuesday, with minimum relative humidity in the 70s, and calls for widespread rain of about one-half to three-quarters of an inch with Tuesday's front. That does not lift a burn ban on its own: bans in Calcasieu and Cameron parishes remain in effect as above, and no lifting notice was found for Beauregard. Drier air returns in the second half of the week, with minimum humidity dropping to 30 to 40 percent.
- Roads / closures: Westbound I-10 over the Calcasieu River Bridge closes Sunday through Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., weather permitting, with the detour via Lakeshore Drive, eastbound I-10, and I-210 West. Tonight, Monday night, is a closure night under that schedule. Check 511la.org before traveling.
- Closures / delays: None posted by owner agencies this morning.
