Medical Marijuana to Start Being Delivered to Louisiana Pharmacies August 6, 2019
After much stalling by bureaucrats and politicians, medical marijuana will start to be shipped out to pharmacies in Louisiana August 6, 2019. This comes four years after lawmakers made medical marijuana legal in the state. There are two sanctioned growers and nine pharmacies licensed to dispense marijuana in Louisiana. This adds Louisiana to the list of 30 other states that have legalized marijuana for medical use.
With so much delay in the process of making medical marijuana available, and added regulations in the state, it leaves some to wonder just who will actually end up receiving it as a treatment. While the list of ailments that a person can have to qualify for treatment with medical marijuana in Louisiana has grown over the past few years, most patients will still not likely get a recommendation to use it. This is due to the high cost state regulations have imposed and the lack of insurance coverage for treatment with marijuana.
The current qualifying conditions for medical marijuana treatment in Louisiana include:
As mentioned above, even if someone has the following symptoms, it may still be unlikely that they will be recommended medical marijuana due to cost imposed by state regulations and the lack of insurance coverage for treatment with marijuana.
- Cancer
- Crohn’s Disease
- Chronic Pain
- Communication difficulties or avoidance that jeopardizes the patient’s physical health
- Destructive or physically aggressive behaviors
- Epilepsy
- Glaucoma
- HIV/AIDS
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Parkinson’s Disease
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Repetitive or self-stimulatory behaviors that put the patient’s physical health at risk
- Seizure Disorders
- Self-Injuring Behaviors
- Severe Muscle Spasms
- Spasticity
- Wasting Syndrome
