Lake Charles - On July 1, 2025, Lake Charles officially welcomed its newly elected mayor and city council members, marking the start of a new era for the city. The formal swearing-in ceremony took place the evening prior, June 30, at the Sudduth Coliseum in the Lake Charles Event Center. Hundreds of residents gathered to witness the inauguration of Mayor Marshall Simien Jr., alongside the seven city council members: Ronnie Harvey, Jr., Donald Fondel, Tommy Bilbo, Matt Young, Stuart Weatherford, Craig Marks, and Matthew Vezinot.

Justice Piper D. Griffin of the Louisiana Supreme Court administered the oath to Mayor Simien, who was joined on stage by his family. Simien, elected as the 30th mayor of Lake Charles after a run-off election in May, brings a wealth of public service experience. He previously served eight years on the Lake Charles City Council representing District A, holding leadership roles as both vice president and president. His service also includes positions with the Lake Charles Port Board, the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, and the Louisiana State Board of Commerce and Industry.

During the ceremony, Mayor Simien emphasized unity and progress, introducing his vision for "One Lake Charles." He recognized the diverse views among council members but highlighted their shared commitment to moving the city forward.

The city council’s new term runs for the next four years, with the first official meeting scheduled for July 2, 2025, at the city council chambers. The public is encouraged to participate and stay engaged as Lake Charles embarks on this new chapter under its fresh leadership.
