Amite, Louisiana - A 35-year-old Hammond woman was killed and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on LA Highway 16 near Dykes Lane in Tangipahoa Parish on the night of Dec. 16, 2025, according to Louisiana State Police.

Troopers with State Police Troop L were called to the scene at approximately 10:20 p.m. The preliminary investigation found that a 2022 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Jalisa S. Alexander of Hammond, was traveling east on LA 16 when a westbound 2012 Kia Sorento crossed the center line and struck the Chevrolet head-on.

Authorities have not yet said why the Kia crossed into the opposing lane, noting that the cause remains under investigation.

Alexander, who was properly restrained, sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in Alexander’s vehicle, also properly restrained, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Kia, who was also properly restrained, received serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital. No updates on that driver’s condition were immediately available based on the information released.

As part of standard protocol in fatal or serious injury crashes, routine toxicology samples were collected from both drivers. Those samples will be analyzed to determine whether impairment played any role in the incident. Toxicology testing typically checks for alcohol and drugs in a person’s system, but results can take time to process and are often reviewed as part of the broader crash investigation.

State Police have not released additional details, including the identity of the Kia driver, potential contributing factors such as speed or roadway conditions, or whether any citations or charges may follow. Officials emphasized that the crash remains under active investigation.

No further information was provided in the initial release from Louisiana State Police.
