Louisiana Woman Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on I-12 After Stopping in Travel Lane and Entering Passenger Seat for Unknown Reasons
Livingston Parish, Louisiana – A Louisiana woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on I-12 after stopping in a travel lane and entering a passenger seat for unknown reasons.
Louisiana State Police (LSP) stated on February 24, 2023, that soon after 11:00 p.m., Troopers with LSP Troop A began investigating a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 12 eastbound near LA 63 in Livingston Parish. Maria Alonso, 69, of Denham Springs, Louisiana, died as a result of the incident.
According to the preliminary inquiry, Alonso was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Impala east on Interstate 12. Meanwhile, a 2009 Dodge Challenger was driving east on Interstate 12. For reasons still being examined, Alonso reportedly parked her vehicle on the roadway in the left traffic lane and entered the passenger front seat. The Challenger then collided with the back of the Impala.
Alonso, who was not restrained at the time of the incident, died at the scene from her injuries. The Challenger’s driver was properly restrained and transferred to a nearby hospital for minor injuries. A toxicological sample was acquired from both occupants as part of the continuing inquiry and will be analyzed.
Louisiana State Police Shared that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that wearing restraints properly can considerably minimize your risk of being injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that everyone in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, wear their seat belts at all times. Wearing your seat belt correctly is one of the most efficient strategies to save your life and limit injuries in a car accident.
