Rapides Parish, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police Troop E initiated an investigation into a fatal two-vehicle collision at the Dollar General on Louisiana Highway 28 East on November 30, 2023, around 10:00 p.m. The crash resulted in the tragic death of Mary Honshul, aged 77, of Pineville, Louisiana.

Initial findings indicate that Honshul’s 2007 Ford Edge failed to yield to an eastbound 2008 Ford F-150 as she exited the Dollar General parking lot. Despite being restrained, Honshul sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford F-150 was also restrained and suffered minor injuries.

While there is no suspicion of impairment, standard toxicology samples were gathered for analysis. The exact cause of the crash is still being investigated; however, it serves as a reminder to the public about the dangers of inattentive and distracted driving, which are leading contributors to accidents in our state.

Motorists are urged to remain attentive to their surroundings while driving and ensure they are well-rested for optimal alertness. In 2023 alone, Troop E Troopers have responded to 51 fatal crashes resulting in 57 fatalities.
