Louisiana Woman Killed in Morning Vehicle-Pedestrian Crash on US 190

Port Allen, Louisiana – A Louisiana woman was killed in a morning vehicle-pedestrian crash on US 190.

According to the Louisiana State Police (LSP), during the morning of March 11, 2023, Troopers with LSP Troop A began investigating a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on US 190 at Rougon Road in West Baton Rouge Parish. Kendra Richard, 32, of Port Allen, Louisiana, died as a result of the crash.

According to preliminary investigations, a 2021 Toyota Camry was driving east in the left lane of US 190. Richard was walking or standing in the left lane for unknown reasons when hit by the Camry. Authorities also indicated that  Richard was dressed in dark attire at the time of the crash.

Richard died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Camry’s driver was properly restrained and unharmed. A toxicological sample was acquired from the pedestrian and driver as part of the continuing inquiry and will be analyzed. This crash is still being investigated.

Troopers advise pedestrians to keep a high level of vigilance when walking near the road. Basic precautions like wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, and walking a safe distance away from travel lanes while facing oncoming vehicles could help prevent many pedestrian-related accidents. Pedestrian collisions can often be avoided by following some simple safety guidelines.
