Louisiana Woman Killed in Morning Pedestrian-Vehicle Crash After Driver Runs Off Roadway
Baton Rouge, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police confirmed that on September 16, 2022, shortly after 9:00 a.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on LA 3246 at Cloverland Ave. The crash ultimately claimed the life of the pedestrian identified as 24-year-old-year Danisha Jackson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
According to preliminary investigations, the pedestrian was walking south on LA 3246 along the grassy shoulder. At the same time, Justin Alexander of Baton Rouge, Louisiana was traveling south in the right lane of LA 3246 in a 2015 Toyota Camry. Alexander struck the curb, exited the roadway to the right, and struck the pedestrian for unknown reasons.
The pedestrian died as a result of their injuries and was pronounced dead at the site. The Toyota driver was properly restrained and escaped unharmed. Toxicology samples were acquired from the pedestrian and the driver of the Toyota for analysis as part of the ongoing inquiry. This crash is still being investigated.
Pedestrians and motorists alike are reminded to be cautious and aware of their surroundings when on the road. Pedestrian collisions can often be avoided by following some simple safety standards. Pedestrians should wear light-colored or light clothes and avoid walking on the road in low-light conditions. Pedestrians must also anticipate that approaching automobiles will not be able to see them, particularly at night. Pedestrians will be safer if they cross roads only in well-lit, designated places and always walk facing traffic.
