Louisiana Woman Killed in Late Night Pedestrian-Vehicle Crash on US 61

Louisiana – The Louisiana State Police reported on October 19, 2022, that on October 18, 2022, soon after 10:30 p.m., troopers from LSP Troop A began investigating a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on US 61 near Commerce Street in Ascension Parish.  Allie Braud, age 29 and from Prairieville, Louisiana, lost her life as a result of the accident.

According to the first findings of the investigation, a 2012 Ford F-150 was traveling southbound on US 61 in the left lane. During this same time period, Braud was walking west across the southbound lanes of US 61 when she was struck by the F-150.

As a direct consequence of the collision, Braud experienced life-threatening injuries and was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene of the incident. The driver of the Ford F-150 was properly restrained and did not receive any injuries in the crash. A toxicological sample was taken from both the pedestrian and the driver in connection with the continuing inquiry, and both of those samples will be sent for processing. The cause of this crash has not yet been determined.

When walking near a roadway, pedestrians are strongly encouraged by state troopers to keep a heightened level of vigilance. Many pedestrian-related collisions might be avoided by taking some basic safety precautions, such as walking a safe distance away from travel lanes while facing oncoming traffic, wearing materials that are reflective, and avoiding becoming distracted in any way. Troopers would also like to remind drivers that making smart decisions, such as never getting behind the wheel while impaired and making sure that every passenger is properly buckled up, can often be the most important factor in preventing major accidents and surviving them.
