Louisiana Woman Killed in I-12 Crash After Running Off the Roadway and Colliding with a Tree

Louisiana – The Louisiana State Police reported on September 15, 2022, that soon before 8:00 a.m., Troopers from LSP Troop L began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 12 near U.S. Highway 11 in St. Tammany Parish. Michelle Gallien, 53, of Mandeville, Louisiana, was killed in the crash.

The incident occurred while Gallien was driving westbound on Interstate 12 in a 2020 GMC Acadia, according to the preliminary investigation. The Acadia went off the road to the right for reasons that are still being investigated. The Acadia went down a grass embankment after leaving the road and collided with a tree.

Despite being properly restrained, Gallien suffered catastrophic injuries as a result of the crash. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries. Gallien’s impairment is not suspected, but normal toxicological findings are awaited. This crash is still being investigated.

Troopers want to urge drivers to always make wise decisions when driving. Never drive while inebriated, fatigued, or distracted, and always obey all traffic rules. While not all car accidents are avoidable, simple precautions like these can frequently mean the difference between life and death.
