Louisiana Woman Killed in Head-On Crash on US 167 After Crossing Centerline for Unknown Reasons

Louisiana – On September 13, 2022, Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 8 west of U.S. Highway 167 at around 10:55 a.m. Eva H. Burks, 86, of Colfax, Louisiana, was killed in the crash.

The initial inquiry found that Burks was driving a 2021 Nissan Versa westbound on Louisiana Highway 8. The Versa crossed the centerlines into the eastbound traffic lane for unknown reasons and collided head-on with a 2017 Nissan Rogue.

Burks, who was restrained, died as a result of her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Rogue, who was also restrained, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Toxicology samples were collected and submitted for testing.

While the reason for this crash is still being investigated, distracted and inattentive driving remains a significant cause of accidents in our state. Louisiana State Police advises all motorists to drive cautiously. A failure in judgment can have fatal repercussions.

Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop E have investigated 32 fatal crashes so far in 2022, resulting in 34 fatalities.
