Concordia Parish, Louisiana – A head-on collision on U.S. Highway 84 in Louisiana claimed the life of a Ferriday woman on November 4, 2025, after a driver crossed into oncoming traffic, according to Louisiana State Police Troop E.
Lekita L. Mehta, 39, of Ferriday, was pronounced dead at the scene following the two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 84 and Nations Road.
The initial investigation revealed that Rozaven P. Thompson, 35, of Clayton, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu westbound on U.S. Highway 84 when the vehicle crossed the centerline into the eastbound travel lane. The reasons for the centerline departure remain under investigation.
Thompson’s vehicle collided head-on with a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu traveling eastbound. Thompson, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Mehta, who was riding as a passenger in Thompson’s vehicle and was also not restrained, suffered fatal injuries.
The driver and passenger of the 2024 Chevrolet Malibu, both of whom were wearing seatbelts, sustained no injuries in the crash.
Louisiana State Police investigators collected routine toxicology samples from Thompson and submitted them for analysis. Impairment is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash, according to LSP.
Troopers arrested Thompson at the scene on charges of driving while intoxicated, first offense. The investigation remains active, and authorities indicated that additional charges are pending against Thompson.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
