Louisiana Woman Killed in Early Morning Wrong-Way Head-On Crash on I-10

Vinton, Louisiana – On September 15, 2022, soon after 12:45 a.m., LSP Troop D was notified of a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 10, roughly 3 miles east of the Toomey / Starks exit in Calcasieu Parish. Kami Angelle Manuel, 23, of Carlyss, Louisiana, died in the crash.

The early inquiry found that Manuel was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado in the eastbound lanes of I-10. At the same time, the driver of a 2015 Ram pickup truck was driving east on I-10. The Chevrolet drove west and collided with the Ram pickup truck.

Manuel was properly restrained, yet the crash resulted in fatal injuries, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ram pickup truck, who was restrained appropriately, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Toxicology samples were collected and will be analyzed. This crash is still being investigated.

Louisiana State Troopers urge motorists to always make sound judgments when driving. Never drive while inebriated, fatigued, or distracted, and always make sure all occupants are securely restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, following simple precautions such as these can frequently mean the difference between life and death.

Troop D has investigated 17 fatal crashes resulting in 19 deaths so far in 2022.
