Louisiana Woman Pleads Guilty to Theft of More than $61,000 in Social Security Funds
Louisiana – U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Catherine Campbell Williams, age 69, of New Orleans, Louisiana, pled guilty on May 31, 2022 to Theft of Government Funds, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 641.
Williams received Social Security Administration benefits paid to a deceased relative beginning in December 2010 and continuing through 2020, according to court documents. Williams received approximately $61,324 in fraudulent Social Security Administration benefits to which she was not entitled.
Williams faces up to ten years in prison, three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000.00, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee. The sentencing date has been set for August 30, 2022 by U.S. District Judge Greg G. Guidry.
The work of the Social Security Administration’s Office of the Inspector General was lauded by U.S. Attorney Evans. Assistant United States Attorney Maria Carboni is in charge of the prosecution in this case.
