Louisiana Woman Charged with Theft of Social Security & CARES Act Funds

Louisiana – United States Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that Nicole Cockerham (“Cockerham”), age 42, of Houma, Louisiana, was charged on March 28, 2022, by a bill of information for Theft of Government Funds, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 641.

According to the bill of information, Cockerham knowingly converted approximately $38,851.00 in Social Security Administration and Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (“CARES ACT”) funds from March 2019 to July 2020.

United States Attorney Duane A. Evans reiterated that the bill of information is only a charge and that the defendant’s guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
