Louisiana Woman Arrested Suspected of Providing Medical Services Without a License, Theft, and Possessing a Fraudulent Degree

Allen Parish, Louisiana – The Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating claims that a Louisiana woman who claimed to be a doctor of dermatology, provided medical services without a license and charged patients over $1,000 per visit.

The Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office revealed on January 6, 2023, that throughout the months of November and December 2022, the APSO began investigating claims of someone impersonating as a doctor in the Oakdale, Louisiana region. According to the information collected, Erica Giles established a practice and began providing services for which she was not licensed. In truth, Giles exhibited a post-secondary education certification from Northwestern State University saying that she was a Doctor of Dermatology. The diploma turned out to be a counterfeit. It was determined that Giles did not graduate from Northwestern and that Northwestern University did not provide such a curriculum.

Detectives also interviewed Erica Giles’ patients/victims, who said that they made payments in excess of $1,000.00 per patient. Investigators also discovered Giles performed on juveniles. Detectives secured a search warrant for the business and discovered the bogus degree and other documents.

Giles was arrested on the scene by detectives and taken to the Allen Parish Jail for booking. Giles was arrested and charged with Theft by Fraud and Possession of a Fraudulent Post Secondary Education Degree; her bond was set at $6,000.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about this case, or a patient who believes they are a victim to call the Allen Parish Sheriff’s Office at 337-639-4353.

The probe is still ongoing.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty.
