Louisiana Woman Arrested in Connection with Shooting That Occurred After Children Found and Fired a Weapon Injuring Themselves

Baton Rouge, Louisiana – A Louisiana woman has been arrested in connection with a shooting that happened after children found and fired a weapon, resulting in injuries to themselves.

The Baton Rouge Police Department stated on May 18, 2023, that Detectives apprehended suspect Desiree Felder, 26, for an incident that occurred this past weekend in the 12000 block of LA Margie Dr.

According to reports from authorities, uniformed Officers were dispatched to a local hospital on May 15, 2023, in response to suspected gunshot injuries to two male children aged 3 and 6.

Detectives reportedly learned throughout the investigation that the youngsters discovered and began playing with an assault-style weapon that fired multiple times inside the residence, hurting the children. Minor injuries were sustained by the children.

Felder was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for 2nd Degree Cruelty to Juvenile and Obstruction of Justice.

Authorities indicated that this is an ongoing investigation.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
