Louisiana Woman Arrested in Connection with Setting Mother’s Home on Fire with Her Inside

St. James Parish, Louisiana – The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office (LASFM) reported on January 10, 2023, that it has arrested a Vacherie, Louisiana woman for allegedly setting her mother’s home on fire while her mother was inside.

Kierra Moody, 31, was booked into the St. James Parish Jail on one count of Aggravated Arson on Saturday, December 31, 2022.

The South Vacherie Fire Department responded to a complaint of a house fire in the 21000 block of Judge Becnel Lane in the early morning hours of New Year’s Eve. Firefighters discovered that the homeowner had put out the fire before they arrived. Nobody was hurt.

Deputies believed there was more than one point of origin and that the fires were intentionally started after assessing the site and collecting witness accounts. An additional investigation determined that Moody was the suspect in the case, and an arrest warrant was secured for her.

Moody was apprehended later that day and charged in connection with the case.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty.
