Louisiana Woman Arrested for Leaving Child Unattended in a Vehicle in a Parking Garage in Shreveport

Shreveport, Louisiana – The Shreveport Police Department reported on August 4, 2022, that on August 3, 2022, police were called to the 400 block of Clyde Fant Parkway in relation to an unaccompanied child inside a vehicle. Officers discovered a vehicle in a parking garage with a 6-year-old child inside. According to police, the car was turned off and the windows were rolled up.

The Shreveport Fire Department responded, and the child was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The child is in stable condition and should recover.
Officers determined that Kit Yu, 49, was the child’s guardian and was allegedly responsible for leaving the child inside the vehicle. Kit Yu was arrested and charged with one count of child desertion.  A family member was given custody of the child.

The Shreveport Police Department urges residents to remember that even on mild or cloudy days, temperatures inside automobiles can easily reach life-threatening levels. Leaving windows slightly open does not help. Children should never be left unsupervised or be able to enter a car without an adult.

According to the national nonprofit KidsAndCars.org, eleven children in the United States have perished from overheated automobiles this year as of July 1st, 2022.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
