Natchitoches, LA – A woman has been arrested after allegedly setting a house on fire with multiple children inside, prompting serious charges from the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Aladrain Daniels, 26, of Natchitoches, Louisiana was taken into custody on December 31, 2024, and is facing six counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of aggravated arson.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve when Natchitoches Fire District #6 responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Rex Waterwell Road. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a fire had been set on the front porch of the residence. Fortunately, a sheriff’s deputy who was on the scene prior to the firefighters was able to extinguish the flames before they could cause significant damage or harm to the occupants.

The occupants of the home—a young mother and her five children, all under the age of 13, including an infant—were reported to be unharmed. Following the fire, deputies began investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and determined that the fire had been intentionally set.

Daniels was identified as a neighbor to the victims and was known to have been acting erratically in the hours leading up to the fire. Deputies noted her frequent visits to the victims’ home earlier that day, which raised suspicions about her involvement. During a subsequent interview with investigators, Daniels reportedly admitted her role in the fire.

The charges of attempted first-degree murder stem from the potential danger posed to the children in the home, while the aggravated arson charge indicates the intentional nature of the act and the significant risk to life and property.

Daniels is currently being held at the Natchitoches Detention Center, where she awaits further legal proceedings.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
