Lockport, Louisiana - Deputies from the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's office have apprehended a woman for allegedly igniting a fire in a motel that was occupied, located in Lockport, Louisiana.

26-year-old Kyra Costa was arrested and put in Lafourche Parish Jail on Friday, September 29, on the charge of Aggravated Arson .

At approximately 5 a.m. on September 29, a call reporting a fire at the Economy Inn situated in the 5600 block of LA 1 in Lockport, Louisiana was attended to by the Lockport Volunteer Fire Department. 

Upon arrival, they discovered a door and its frame ablaze for one of the motel's rooms. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. The motel had 16 guests checked in when the fire occurred.

After evaluating the situation, taking witness testimonies, and gathering evidence such as surveillance footage, the deputies concluded that the fire was purposely started. Costa was pinpointed as a likely suspect in this case, leading to a warrant for her arrest being issued.

The inquiry revealed that Costa had been residing at the motel with her boyfriend. However, following a disagreement, she was requested to vacate the motel room.

On the same day as the fire, deputies from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's office found Costa and arrested her.

The SFM thanked the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office for their partnership in the quick closure of this case.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
