Caddo Parish, Louisiana - A Louisiana woman has been arrested for allegedly pointing a laser at a police helicopter in Caddo Parish.

On August 15, a complaint was received from a Baltimore Police helicopter crew who reported that a green laser light was pointed at them during their training flight from Metro Aviation in Shreveport, which built their aircraft. Caddo Parish Deputy Steven Jones responded to the call after being alerted by the helicopter's spotlight.

Upon arriving at the scene in Blanchard, Deputy Jones found April Poitras, 44, of the 7600 block of Hwy. 1, pointing a green laser light at the aircraft and the ground. Poitras was taken into custody and placed in Deputy Jones' patrol vehicle until Blanchard Police arrived.

Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator later confirmed that Poitras was arrested for pointing the green laser light at the aircraft, which was later identified as a police helicopter.

Poitras was taken into custody by Blanchard Officer David Lowery for allegedly aiming a laser at an aircraft, which is illegal. She now faces a charge of Unlawful Aiming of a Laser at an Aircraft and has been processed at the Caddo Correctional Center.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
