Louisiana Woman Arrested and Charged with 2nd Degree Murder of 6-Month-Old After Allegedly Leaving Child in Vehicle for Several Hours
Lake Charles, Louisiana – On August 15, 2022, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that on August 14, around 3:45 p.m., a motorist, later identified as Ivy L. Lee, 22, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, flagged down an off-duty Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy in the area of Enterprise Boulevard and Broad Street in Lake Charles. According to authorities, Lee informed the deputy that her six-month-old infant was not breathing. Another CPSO deputy was flagged down while patrolling in the vicinity. Deputies began attempting life-saving procedures on the girl immediately, and she was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was subsequently pronounced dead.
During the initial investigation, Lee reportedly told officers two different explanations, both of which claimed the child was not in her care. Ivy eventually told detectives that she drove to her job on Gerstner Memorial Drive in Lake Charles and left the child in her small SUV for around 5 hours. A search of the SUV found that it contained suspected marijuana.
Lee was apprehended and put into the Calcasieu Correctional Center after further investigation. She was charged with 2nd-degree murder and possession of marijuana. Her bond was set at $1,204,000 by Judge Tony Fazzio.
Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Detective Michelle Robinson is the lead investigator on this case.
An arrest indicates probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the alleged offense. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
