Lake Charles, Louisiana – A significant weather system is expected to impact central Louisiana and the Interstate 10 corridor this Saturday, December 28, prompting meteorologists to issue an Enhanced Risk alert for severe weather conditions. The alert, which represents a level 3 on the 5-tier severe weather scale, will be in effect from mid-morning through the afternoon hours.

The National Weather Service has identified multiple severe weather threats, including the possibility of tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, and large hail. The Enhanced Risk area encompasses central Louisiana and extends southward to the I-10 corridor in the southwestern and south-central regions of the state.

Surrounding areas, with the exception of the immediate coastline, face a Slight Risk designation (level 2 out of 5) for severe weather impacts.

The timing of the system suggests residents should be particularly vigilant during the late morning and afternoon hours, with conditions expected to improve by evening. Weather officials recommend having multiple ways to receive weather alerts and maintaining awareness of changing conditions throughout the day.

Emergency management officials emphasize the importance of having a severe weather plan in place, particularly given the potential for multiple severe weather modes. Residents are advised to identify safe rooms or storm shelters in advance of the weather system’s arrival.
